About the Auction
What is the Gala Auction?
Each year, many volunteers and scores of donors collaborate to create one wonderful night to benefit the American Cancer Society. An annual "event" in the area, where several hundred people have gathered in the upstairs ballroom of the Eagles Club, Inc. for 31 years, for the express purpose of outbidding each other for the many great items that have been donated. THIS YEAR, for the first time, "The Auction" will be held at Green Grove Gardens -- 1032 Buchanan Trail East (Route 16 between Waynesboro and Greencastle). With a change of venue and holding the event a month earlier, we are hoping to have our best turnout, yet. Come and support Cancer Research and Treatment in your local area.
The silent bid items number far in excess of several hundred, including many celebrity autographed items. There is a steady stream of traffic by these tables, as everyone checks and re-checks their bids, attempting to be the last with the highest bid. When the "blue light" goes on, and there's only minutes till bidding closes on a table -- look out! Our supporters are very anxious to help fight cancer with their donations.
The real excitement of the evening is during the oral bidding action for the 100 to 150 major items. There is a never a lack of interest for any of the prized treasures. From antiques to newly crafted furniture, from football tickets to weekends in your favorite vacation spot, and hunting trips, and pies or ice cream weekly for an entire year. There is literally something of interest for everyone. The bidding is sometimes fast and furious and, again, the spirited action is a reflection of our supporters desire to help make a difference in the fight against cancer.
